Having always despised Lucifer for his ego and being the preferred twin, Michael began manipulating him into carrying out several nefarious acts in an effort to discredit his reputation. Despite Michael looking up to Amenadiel like his other siblings, he often enjoyed pestering him by making the latter think that he was Lucifer, but Amenadiel would eventually discover the façade and administer one of his "atomic wedgies" Michael tended to give himself away with his Fear Exhibition. Growing up with the other Angels, Michael and the other older siblings would always exclude Uriel whenever he tried to play with them.
He tried to prove he was better then Lucifer all their lives, but was never able to escape Lucifer's shadow. This ultimately caused Michael to unknowingly self-actualize the "chip on his shoulder" with Lucifer, causing his right shoulder to visibly appear slanted downwards and his right wing into looking as if it were injured. Michael's enmity for his twin traced back to their early years in Heaven as he always felt overshadowed by Lucifer due to his renowned reputation and status as the Lightbringer. At some point, Mi-ka-el changed his name to Michael, not wanting it to rhyme with his twin's name, Samael, who had also changed his name to Lucifer Morningstar. Now a full scale war, Michael manipulated Dan Espinoza's death and killed Chloe while battling his twin in a final battle. With Heaven's throne now vacant after God retired to Goddess's universe after they reconciled, Michael recovered the Flaming Sword and rallied the majority of Angels against Lucifer. As planned, in midst of a heated battle with his brothers in the frozen precinct, God halted the fighting and all but banished him from Earth. In retaliation, he manipulated everyone in Lucifer's life, forming a temporary alliance with Mazikeen in the process. When Lucifer eventually returned, Michael's face was scarred so he couldn't impersonate him again. Staring off impersonating his twin, Michael infiltrated the LAPD before eventually being exposed by Chloe Decker. Michael's plan soon became twofold after growing jealous of the praise Lucifer got from their siblings after he returned to Hell at the expense of his own happiness, and ventured to Earth, intent to prove he hasn't changed. Thousands of years later, unbeknownst to Lucifer or any of his siblings, Michael had been manipulating their Father with the intention of having Him retire so that he could finally claim the Throne of Heaven and thereby prove to himself and everyone else that he's better than Lucifer. After self-actualising a distortion to his right shoulder and wing due to his envy of Lucifer's renowned reputation and status as the Lightbringer, Michael secretly instigated his twin into carrying out nefarious acts, which includes the rebellion against God that resulted in his banishment to Hell. He served as the unseen overarching antagonist of Season 1 as well as the primary antagonist of Season 5. Michael, (formerly pronounced Mi-ka-el), is an Archangel and the elder twin brother of Lucifer Morningstar.
